Exceptional matte-dial “Pepsi” with original punched guarantee

This is a very fine example of the transitional Rolex GMT-Master reference 16750, retaining its desirable matte black tritium dial.

The dial is exceptionally clean, with full, evenly aged luminous plots displaying an attractive warm-yellow patina. The original tritium hour and minute hands match the dial closely, while the red GMT hand and triangular luminous tip remain strong and well preserved.

The watch has an attractive red-and-blue Pepsi bezel insert with pleasing natural fading and honest age-related wear. The case remains strong and well proportioned, with broad lugs, clearly defined edges and fully legible reference and serial-number engravings.

It is fitted to a Rolex reference 78360 Oyster bracelet with 580 end links. The bracelet is in very good condition with moderate wear consistent with its age.

The serial number, 8,189,850, matches the original punched Rolex guarantee. The guarantee was issued by Duty Free Shoppers Limited in Tamuning, Guam, and is dated 20 April 1984.

Provenance

Purchased from John Lee in Hong Kong in 2016 for HK$135,000. It has subsequently formed part of a private collection, with no use at all, kept in environmentally controlled safe.
