This is an interesting watch – its a rescue watch from a Rolex dealer who wanted to break it for parts. I bought it and restored it.
I relumed the dial, which has a lovely chocolate body colour – but it had dark “algae” plots. There remains an oil stain near the hour counter pinion but in hand, in daylight, the dial now looks beautiful. Please note this is not a brown dial, it has a hint of chocolate.
I replaced the non original crown with a vintage correct 24 tooth crown.
I replaced the service bezel with a correct DO90 bezel – note it has a very slight dent.
The movement, which has been serviced many times as seen from the case back, is serviced and perfect working order.
The reference itself is very rare, the -64. This reference has a unique case design, with flat sides. This watch retains that feature.
The price is basically the sum of the parts.
Finally, I have seen many watches offered in the market, in exactly this condition but with works undeclared. The works are easily identified once I point them out, or if you are experienced at looking at speedmasters.
